The type of massage that I do is therapeutic connective tissue massage. I went to the Chicago School of Massage Therapy and was certified in 1990. I do therapeutic massage ONLY. As I see it, our bodies are not made of muscles that layer to form our shapes for that would mean that only the outer edges of each muscle could interact with other muscles or be attached to our skeleton. Instead, as I perceive it, a body is a "string picture" with each individual muscle fiber attaching directly to our skeleton or becoming part of a tendon or ligament that attaches to the skeleton. Movement flows along the muscles fibers as sound travels along a string and any movement made by an individual travels from one end of a body to the other end unless there is some type of tissue damage that stops that flow. You can mentally picture what I'm describing by imagining a shape that is composed of many layers of threads, running in many directions that are attached to nails that form the outline of your shape. If you mentally reach into your picture and take three threads that run in different directions at different levels and put a drop of glue on them to hold them together, your imagined shape will be distorted and any flow of movement along those threads would be stopped. This is how I picture what happens to muscle fibers when there is any type of tissue damage. Each muscle fiber is wrapped in connective tissue. Several fibers are grouped into a "bundle" and wrapped in connective tissue. Several bundles group and are wrapped in connective tissue into bigger and then bigger bundles until the entire muscle is formed. The muscle is also entirely wrapped in connective tissue. To me, the inside of a muscle is similar to the inside of telephone cable. I work with the body's connective tissue or fascia through massage and passive movement to undo damage and allow that flow of movement along the individual muscle fibers to once again happen for my clients. My sessions are long, usually about 3 - 3 1/2 hours, since it takes time both for a body to accept my style of work and then for me to undo whatever the damage is that is stopping movement along the segments of each muscle fiber. Sometimes all of the fiber movement in a body can be restored in one session and sometime it take multiple sessions, for each body is different.

Sacred Movement Yoga
Yoga is an ancient art and science that brings health and well-being to your body, mind and spirit. The word "Yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word which means "to yoke" or to bind together. To bind together all the various parts of ourselves which is thought of as the body, mind and spirit. The true purpose of Yoga is to unify - to yoke - or to join ourselves with universal energy that courses though all living things. This experience of connection is brought to life through Yoga by unifying the body, mind and spirit. The greatest benefits of the practice are realized when each part of the self is working together, allowing you to feel healthier and more at peace. At Still Point Center, we offer Sacred Movement Yoga therapies by our sensitive, professional Yoga instructors.

Kathleen Wood and Kathleen Wall

Sacred Movement Yoga Instructor
Kathleen brings an extensive teaching background to Sacred Movement Yoga. She earned a BA degree with a double major in Physical Education and English at Adams State College in Colorado. She has used her education training the past 18 years as a guide on the Colorado River. Though relatively new to Yoga, Kathleen's physical fitness and education background, as well as her strong connection to the natural world, enable her to bring a unique perspective into the Yoga room. "Yoga brought my love of the natural world and my background in the physical education field and connected it with my spirituality. Everything just fell into place." Kathleen has continued her Yoga education and earned her certificate by attending weekend seminars and a week long intensive on Anusara Yoga.
