Desi Arnaz, Jr. purchased the Historic Boulder Theatre in 1998 and is currently renovating it into a Live Performing Arts Theatre. It closed as a movie theatre in 1997 because it couldn't compete with all the new cineplexes opening over the hill in Las Vegas.

The Historic Boulder Theatre is home to non-profit Boulder City Ballet Company (BCBC). Desi has taken down the movie screen and built a stage, added mirrors to the back wall and allows BCBC to use this wonderful space for ballet lessons and performances.

Desi's band has performed two sold-out performances at the Theatre as a fundraiser for BCBC. Check out Desi's web site at www.riccidesibilly.com.

What's New

Very soon everything will be new in the Theatre! Since Desi purchased the Historic Theatre in the Spring of 1998, a huge amount of work has been done to renovate, restore and bring the building up to code.

Here is a list the work that has been done so far:

  • New 50-ton air conditioner
  • New electrical system
  • Fresh paint
  • New smoke detection system
  • Fire sprinklers throughout
  • Fire riser in the alley
  • New rear doors with panic hardware
  • New carpeting
  • New front patio
  • New neon in the great old signs
  • All restrooms re-plumbed and up to code
  • An antique chandelier hangs in the ladies' room
  • Fully renovated lobby with exquisite ceilings
  • New front office with marble counters
  • Autographed Pointe Shoes from our dancers hang in the "Hall of Fame"
  • New double-pane, safety windows throughout
  • It's a new theatre!

This photo is our "Painting Daddies" painting the Theatre pink! All of the men who patched and painted the Theatre for us have little girls studying dance at Dance Etc. and painted the whole Theatre for us on two consecutive weekends with a lot of TLC.

In the summer of 2002 Roel Construction supervised a major renovation of the lobby and restrooms. We put in a new sewer line and all new plumbing to the existing restrooms and built a large, new ladies' restroom. More AC was added and lots of new electrical. We were happy to use local contractors Chuck's Electric, Rants Plumbing and Richner Air Conditioning.

Redevelopment Fund

A big "Thank You" to our City Council and the folks at City Hall who work with the Redevelopment Fund for granting us money from the Fund to pay for the smoke detectors, fire riser, sprinkler system and part of the electrical work.
