Jill: I have a very exciting day today. I get to visit with Nick. Nick is one of the amazing guides with Boulder City Ghost Adventures. We are so excited to have you here today. And Nick, what is your last name?
Nick: It's Weir.
Jill: Okay.
Nick: And, I do say Weird for the tour. We throw on the D at the end, but, I do come by the whole thing honestly.
Jill: And so what's your last name?
Nick: Weir. W-E-I-R. You put a D on the end. Nick Weir.
Jill: Thank you. I love that. And so I wanted you to kind of explain that a little bit more because I have taken your tour. I brought my family for, one of our Christmas family activities, and you explained that at the exact same time, the exact same way, and a bunch of people kept saying, "What?
What is your last name?" And so anyway, I thought that was, a great way to kick this off because you have such an interesting history. You have fallen in love with Boulder City. Thank you very much for what it is that you do because there are a lot of people. How many people have taken your tour so far?
Nick: I would have to guess, thousands now. We've definitely done groups of over 100 multiple times now. We've had lots and lots of big groups throughout the Octobers in the past.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: 20, 40 people groups. So I have to guess over 1,000 people by now.
Jill: Jiminy Cricket. So that's a lot of people that have not only learned the fun ghost stories, those adventure type stories, but you really build in a lot of the history of our historic district.
And so they're kind of mixing that, that fun and that entertainment, especially because of your persona, but then also they're learning about the history of the historic district, and I am just in love with it. I just think it is such a great addition to activities and things and adventure to do here in Boulder City, so I was so excited to get to visit with you today.
Nick: Absolutely. I was, thrilled to have the opportunity to come out. like I said before, I fell in love with Boulder City. it's an amazing place. The people are awesome, and the chance to share information in the format that I am is really unique. People come out to ghost tours and things like this, not just to hear the spooky stuff, but like you said, get into the history of the area.
And a lot of times, Learning can stop being as fun as it should be, so we can get back to that a little bit more with stuff like this.
Jill: Yeah, I love that. And we do learn when it's mixed with something that entertains and makes you remember things. And I just shared with you that one of my favorite parts of the tour is that you mix the modern with the history by having that little projector on your cellphone, and you shine it on the ground.
And people all gather around 'cause they're just mystified that you're showing a movie or stills or whatever on the ground, and then you'll shine it on the side of a building, and people are all staring up there. And it, it just is such a great way to engage your audience and provide that information and keep even the little guys engaged and watching and paying attention.
So, you did such a great job. So I'm so glad to have you. So tell me a little bit more. Boulder City Ghost Adventures. So the concept is they can buy tickets online. We're gonna have more information in the show notes about exactly how to do that. But, they'll buy, they buy, purchase tickets, and like you said, groups of however, so family groups if they've got a family reunion in town or a corporate event. What a great way to do a group, but then they can buy individual tickets as well, correct?
Nick: Yes, absolutely. As a matter of fact, I've done many tours for just groups of two or even a single person who came out. That was one of the big reasons why I wanted to be in Boulder City so that, no matter who wanted to come and experience it, they could do it.
Jill: That's awesome. And so then, what time are the tours at? What time do you do them?
Nick: So typically, we're leaving out at 8:00 PM, and we wrap up around about 9:00. It's usually an hour long, about a half mile walking, but Boulder City's very easy to get around. It's a comfortable place. So we see tours every day of the week as long as someone signs up.
Jill: Oh, very good. So I know that you focus mostly on the weekends. I see you gather at Beer Zombies, and that's the starting point. What a great place to start. Families can come. They can get a drink. They can, purchase a hamburger or something and eat as a family before they actually go out on their tour.
And you know the other really cool thing about this is it's handicap accessible. So thank you so much for thinking of that because I know the night of my tour we had a gentleman that was in a wheelchair. Zero issues whatsoever. His family was so grateful that he got to participate in something that not all of our tour operators have the ability to provide that service. Thank you for thinking of that.
Nick: No, no. Really that's something that I have to thank Boulder City for. The opportunity to lead a tour with accessibility is in large part due to the way the town is set up. It's an incredible town that if you haven't been down to, I can't stress enough, come out and see it because when you go through the streets, you can feel the intention of the people who set it up. And you can see why this was such a critical place.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: And it still is.
Jill: I love that. And again, that's part of the history that you talk about and share with people is it is intentional, right? It was intentional from the very start, and just a fabulous opportunity, so thank you very much for that.
And so, Nick, I always ask people a little bit more about themselves. So you're the guide. You're telling us these great things. You're taking on us on these tours. But what got you to that point? Who, what's behind Nick? So tell me, what was your first job?
Nick: So if we go back, my first job is actually gonna be with AmeriCorps.
Jill: Oh.
Nick: Yes. I got
Jill: Okay
Nick: to, do volunteer work with the, United Way of Southern Nevada
Jill: Yes
Nick: and through Three Square Food Bank.
Jill: Oh, man. such a awesome resource. I don't know what we would do in this community. The county is just so lucky to have Three Square.
Nick: It's very true. an amazing, amazing place, and if anybody's facing difficulties, don't hesitate to reach out, and if you're in a good place, hey, go volunteer. Drop something off. I can't tell you how much the volunteer hours really mattered at a facility like that.
Jill: Yeah. That's amazing. Well, thank you for your service to them. I really appreciate that, and sharing a little bit, about them. And so okay, that was your first job. And so, what is your day job now?
Nick: So now I actually get to work up at the, the inn on the side of the highway here in Boulder City. So it's the one with the big lighthouse standing out in front of it.
Jill: Yes.
Nick: It's a nice little getaway for the people, but, it also gives me the opportunity to continue that, dialogue as we see people coming into Boulder City. I can tell them about some of the sites in town that I really like, and I've definitely sent lots of people to the restaurants.
Jill: Oh, yes. Thank you very much. We appreciate you. So you're... We call those our frontline ambassadors. We really appreciate that. We actually have a, an educational program surrounding that because we wanna make sure that in your position you've got the tools that you need, so we do have an education program to train all of our frontline ambassadors, make sure you guys, have all the information that you can share, and circulate those guests around, right?
So the last thing that we want when people come to town, they sit down at a restaurant and they ask their waitress, "Okay, what is there to do in Boulder City?" And that waitress lives in Vegas and says, "I don't know," you know, "go back to Vegas." That's not a really good answer, right? We wanna make sure they have the information they need.
I'm appreciative of all your efforts, and so thank you for pushing more people back up here out at the top of the hill. And so at that location you have a interaction. You're a very social person, so you have the, a lot of that interaction with those individuals, and do you get the opportunity to share and say, "Hey, come do a ghost tour"?
Nick: Absolutely. I, of course try to stay humble, so I don't like to throw my tour out in front of people, but if, they start talking about the history of the town, and the UFOs, and the ghosts, I definitely bring up, "Hey- Go walk around, see the statues here in town. Yeah. And if you end up wanting some more, hey, there's some things like this that you can come and see as well.
Jill: Yes. Okay.
Nick: And I definitely send them to Tom Devlin.
Jill: Oh my gosh, right? So, he's getting ready to go into his high season, but they have got some really cool programs all year long, and, right down to the fact that they sell dance tights, right? So when the dance studio gets ready to go through their, their new season, they've got new dancers coming along, Lola's got dance tights over there for kids.
And so I'm like, oh my gosh, you never thought about that. But look, think about all the costumes and all the things that she's getting ready to go into this crazy season, and yeah, Tom, that is such a neat asset to Boulder City.
Nick: Really, really is.
Jill: Yeah. Okay, so let me ask you a few questions. So we know that right now it's just kind of this really, really crazy time with all this information release on UFOs and all the stuff that kind of cycles around that and the para normal stuff that you really are into. Will you share a little bit more about your insight on that?
Nick: Absolutely. So we're right in the middle of an intense period of time for this particular type of discussion. Historically speaking, this type of talk doesn't happen. We don't talk much about UFOs and ghosts and things like that, particularly in professional fields, because a lot of times it gets you eliminated from that field. You're no longer taken seriously. Your credibility is shot.
Jill: That was kind of the Scooby-Doo stuff, right? It wasn't Yeah. Yeah.
Nick: Exactly. Yeah. people didn't take it seriously. You must be just seeing things. but now we're looking at members of every branch of government. We're looking at every major military organization and members of various scientific communities coming forward and telling you, "Yes, this has been going on for decades." And we've not only interacted with them, but that there are recovered objects from potentially non-human intelligences, and that's being told to us.
Jill: And so those things have been stored in different places. We weren't, it wasn't very transparent for whatever reason. But now some of this information is being released, and now are you delving into that? Are you finding more information there that is it providing you the resources and more tools that you need for what it is you do?
Nick: So I'm absolutely delving into these files as they get released. One of the big, things though that we have to keep in mind as we are going into these documents is some of this stuff is information we've seen before.
Some of these are things that have been rumored and alleged for years and years and years, and now we're just getting confirmation that says, yes, it really did happen this way.
Jill: Wow.
Nick: Some of the most shocking things are the direct transcripts from NASA astronauts in space experiencing things that they attributed to other beings.
Jill: Interesting.
Nick: And
Jill: Yeah, that's very interesting. And so does it also it, makes me think all those people who wrote about it or talked about it and they were somewhat shunned, it kind of legitimizes who and what they are.
Nick: Right, and that's one of the more difficult parts of what we're going to have to confront as we move forward. The reality is a lot of people lost their careers. A lot of people had their families torn apart based on Not being taken seriously
Jill: Yeah
Nick: or being outright discredited. And You know
Jill: That's sad
Nick: it really is. We've seen, scientists disappear. And it's not just scientists. We had a general, a former general, go missing for weeks before it even hit the news.
And then we talked about all these missing scientists for about, a week and a half, and then it stopped being on the news.
Jill: Yeah. Yeah.
Nick: They're talking about them for years.
Jill: But their families are still missing them.
Nick: Yes. Yeah.
Jill: That's really hard. And then also know that, as a family member of somebody who's been discredited, that's gotta be so difficult.
Nick: Yeah. it is something that, I don't know how we reconcile as we go forward because you can't fix the problems once they've happened.
Jill: So do you feel like you have ever encountered, any extraterrestrial experiences, or have you had those can you share?
Nick: Absolutely. so my experience with the paranormal, goes back really far. When I'm just a little boy, maybe three years ol I would go to my grandmother and tell her about past lives tha I had lived.
Jill: Really?
Nick: Yes. and in detail, would explain to her things like, being a member of the Smoky Mountain Tribe, and this is the types of things we did. Another time, I would tell her about being a doctor who has two daughters that just, they need to know that I'm okay and they're okay, even though I'm not with them, that doesn't matter.
Jill: Really?
Nick: And as I got older, that sort of went away, but I would have other odd experiences.
Jill: How did your grandma handle that when you were three?
Nick: So I think she was particularly well-equipped. My grandmother is actually Diana Atkinson, PhD- who worked in the county, with with, Clark County.
Jill: Oh.
Nick: She's a child psychologist.
Jill: Okay.
Nick: And so she helped
Jill: She was equipped.
Nick: Yeah. She helped a lot to, place the children who have to go through the foster care system
Jill: Oh
Nick: here in the state of Nevada.
Jill: Oh, wow. Thank you for her work.
Nick: And so she was absolutely set up to deal with a child experiencing these odd things.
Jill: Interesting. Okay. So now you get older. You're... Are you still experiencing? Have you had any encounters? Or at this point, is it just odd things that are happening to you as you're growing up?
Nick: There are a few things. as I get older, when I'm about six or seven, my, But, when I'm about that age, my grandfather comes over to have a meal with us.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: And I look out the big bay window and I say, why are Grandpa's mommy and daddy outside? They should come in and eat with us." They had been gone for years.
Jill: Oh.
Nick: I don't know that I'd even seen a picture of these people.
Jill: Interesting. It's like you
Nick: And then he had a triple bypass that he needed to get done 'cause he had a massive heart attack
Jill: Yeah
Nick: a couple days later.
Jill: Oh my gosh. It was almost like they were there preparing him. Yeah.
Wow. Interesting.
Nick: And it gets even stranger for me.
Jill: Okay.
Nick: One of the things that, is being talked about big time right now is the GATE program.
Jill: Yes.
Nick: Are you familiar with it?
Jill: the GATE program at schools
Nick: Yes
Jill: in elementary schools?
Nick: E- exactly.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: As it happens, the GATE program is, Gifted Talented Education.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: But it's also been alleged that it was used to recruit psionic assets. That's people with psychic powers.
Jill: Really?
Nick: I got picked up in the fourth grade.
Jill: Interesting.
Nick: Post college-level reading and a 98th percentile memory.
Jill: That is crazy, Nick. And so I would never have known that from GATE. I remember the kids... I was not included, I was never invited. But I remember the kids that always got to leave the classroom and go to GATE, and you were always kinda jealous, and their teacher was really cool, and it was all of that. But yeah. Well, that is really interesting. I had no idea.
Nick: Yes.
Jill: How cool.
Nick: And I have to tell you, do, do a little bit of looking into the GATE program and some of the experiences people talk about.
Jill: Really?
Nick: It's very, very odd.
Jill: Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I'm gonna check that out.
Nick: But just to bring us right back to Boulder City.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: we talked encounters. So when I first moved to Boulder City
Jill: Yes
Nick: I was living down on the girls' streets.
Jill: Okay.
Nick: And then I moved up here by the Lighthouse Inn.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: So as I'm walking home in December, this would've been, 2023. It's, about 11 o'clock at night, and I look out over the lake, and if I held out my arm at full extension, it would've been maybe two palms above the, water, and about the size of a grapefruit.
Jill: Okay.
Nick: It was bright orange. So bright orange that it hurt to look at it. There was a corona of light around it. I tried to pull out my phone to, you know
Jill: Take a picture
Nick: take a picture. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And I'm watching this thing, and it disappears. Blinks out.
Jill: Really?
Nick: And at the time I had been, really delving into this stuff, and I still am, but, you know, I started focusing out because one of the things that is alleged with these is it's conscious related.
Jill: Yes.
Nick: So I started thinking at it, "Hey, you know, I saw you."
Jill: Yeah. "
Nick: What are you hiding for?" It blinked back in and then it flashed back out.
Jill: Really?
Nick: And I have no idea what I saw.
Jill: That is
Nick: But I know I saw it
Jill: very interesting. And it was hovering over the water?
Nick: Yes. it was easily two palms above the water.
And it was bright, bright orange. I mean, so bright orange that again, it hurt to look at it. There was a corona
Jill: How interesting
Nick: of light. I don't know how anybody else couldn't have seen it. and then it was just gone.
Jill: Wow. That is very interesting. I wonder if anybody else has had that same kind of an experience.
Nick: I wonder about it, too.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: I ask people in the area about things like this pretty regularly, and, there are other people who have seen strange things here in Boulder City.
Jill: I wonder, like if, did the National Park Service, did they get any kind of a report that day or a call or anything? I wonder.
Nick: Now, see, that would be something to look into
Jill: Yeah
Nick: because there have been weird allegations like that in the past.
Jill: Interesting
Nick: maybe you've heard about Bigfoot traveling east across the air base.
Jill: Yes. I have a daughter who's very into this, and her, and my son-in-law, and so I've heard her share some different stories.
That is something that she's always been very fascinated by. And you just never really know, and I think it's interesting because those things we've never really known, as you shared, we're starting to get some information and confirmation, and it's opening us up to thinking bigger, to thinking differently, right?
Nick: Absolutely.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: One of the critical things that I think we have to address right now is you have scientists at the bleeding edge of technology telling you that consciousness is a field that suffuses everything. That really changes the way we interact with the world a lot.
Jill: Yeah.
Nick: It makes things very different.
I'm gonna stick with the three things that I always recommend to people. If you can carry these three things, no matter what happens, life's gonna be a little bit better. Gratitude, compassion, and love.
That's it.
Jill: You know what? What a great way to end, 'cause there's not much more that we can say that's any better than that.
So thank you, Nick, so much, and I really encourage our listeners to check out our show notes to get more information about how to sign up, get tickets, and join you for a tour, because it really is entertaining. It's a great way for education, and it's a wonderful family activity. So thank you for what you do, and thank you for your beautiful words.
We appreciate you.
Nick: No, thank you so much for having me, and, thanks everybody for the time.
